Medical School Interview Hot Topics - Doctors and social media
Guidance has been released by the General Medical Council and also the medical defence organisations which cover how doctors (and medical students) should approach the use of social media. This topic is now being assessed in medical school interviews. Here are some examples of the types of questions you could be asked relating to this topic in your interview:-
You are a medical student learning at the local paediatric unit at your local NHS hospital. You receive a friend request from the mother of a patient you have just taken a history from. What do you do?
You are a doctor working in a busy GP practice. One of the patients posts a poor review of his experience with seeing you and names you specifically on Facebook. What do you do?
You are browsing through what is supposed to be a private doctors only forum. One of the medical students who is working with you posts the following:
“Saw Steve from my old school yesterday whilst on call in the local hospital. Had a rash on his face which he got from holiday in Spain. Came in at 10pm – had just come from the airport. Here is a photo. Can anyone help me with what this rash is?”
