Doctor for a Day - Course for students applying for medicine
A day of practical hands on training by UK doctors to help students in their medical school application.
Learn clinical skills from doctors who teach at UK medical schools. You can use what you learn to demonstrate your commitment and motivation for medicine on your UCAS application and in your medical school interviews. In addition, you will find out what it takes studying to be a doctor.
We aim this course at any student from years 10-13. You will be taught by fully qualified doctors who teach students from UCLAN, Manchester and Lancaster medical schools. As well as learning new skills, you will gain an insight into what it is like in Year 1 of medical school. We are going to focus in this session on what medical schools term ‘circulation and breathing’.
Taking a clinical history from a patient
Clinical examination skills
Preform minor surgery – suturing skills
Learn about resuscitation and life support skills
Practical skills, for example recording an ECG
Practice a problem based learning session
Practice OSCE (Objective Clinical and Practical Examination) stations
You will learn in small classrooms in a friendly and supportive environment. The tutors are fully qualified practicing doctors – don’t be afraid to put up your hand or ask for help if you are stuck.
We start registration at 10.45am for a 11.00am start. We provide refreshments through the day and aim to finish by 4.00pm.
