Medical School Interview FAQ and tips

  • Looking at 2022 entry, about half of our students had been called for at least one university by January 2022. Do not be disheartened if you have not heard from any medical school by the new year, as many medical school continue to interview into April. This is frustrating and it is important to not lose focus on A-level preparation in the meantime.

  • It is normal to have some anxiety when undertaking your medical school interview. However, it was clear from some students during our MMI circuit days that this anxiety was adversely affecting their performance. It may be beneficial for some students affected by this to learn more on how to control their anxiety, for example by keeping hydrated and breathing exercises.

  • Students have told us they are using textbooks in their preparation. You can use reading of textbooks to gain a good foundation on which to build your preparation for interviews. However, some of the books that students have reported reading are going back to 2013, so you must ensure that any resources that you use are up to date and contain the latest NHS topics.

  • Unfortunately, students are still attending interviews with the only preparation reading an interview book and then only a week before the actual interview. I cannot stress enough the importance of timely preparation and practice - you should start as soon as you sent in your UCAS form. Book your interview course early - do not wait until you are called for interview. You may only get days notice.

  • You must dress formally and smartly for your interview. Students did attend our MMI circuit days dressed in bright T-shirts and trainers, despite our clear guidance to the contrary. Do not do this in your real medical school interview. Although there may not be a specific mark for the way you are dressed, do not give the examiners an excuse to instinctively mark you down.

  • If you are unsure about the question you must ask the examiner to clarify. If you are stuck on a question, say so - the examiners (at your stage) should give you some help at the expense of losing some marks. If you need time to gather your thoughts, indicate this to the examiner rather than causing an uncomfortable pause in your answer

Who will be teaching me on the MMI medical school interview course?

Your tutor is critical to the quality of your teaching. Dr Mannan and Dr Khan teach our interview courses in person, as this is the only way to ensure the quality of our training. Poor quality training puts your medical school place at risk. We'd like to tell you more about us and what we do.

Are awards and affiliations important when choosing a medical school interview course?

🔎 You will find other providers state they are affiliated with certain societies and possibly have some ‘investor’ or ‘business’ awards. We could have them as well – for payment of a fee.

🔥 We don’t bother with this nonsense – because we believe our tutors should have achievements relevant to medicine. Here is some of what our doctors have in terms of qualifications:-

😀 We could list more, but we hope you will appreciate the need for achievements that will benefit your training as a future doctor rather than glossy stickers.
