UK Work Experience Placements in Medicine
UK NHS GP surgery placements for students looking to apply for medicine at UK universities. Our placements are suitable for undergraduate (aged 16+) and postgraduate entry students.
Your placement will be in our own NHS training practice in East Lancashire. We are based near the beautiful Ribble Valley and a stone’s throw from the Lake District.

Here is what we offer…
We put you on the front line of primary care in the UK in a safe training environment.
Our NHS practice hosts medical students from UCLAN and Manchester medical schools.
Our practice also hosts foundation year (FY2) trainee doctors as well as GP specialist trainees (ST3)
Your supervisors will be fully qualified doctors experienced in medical education
Sit in with doctors during consultations and observe minor surgery
Learn about history taking and clinical examination skills
Learn about chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and heart disease and how they are treated in the community
Get involved in practical procedures such as recording an ECG
Learn about the NHS and how medical care is organised in England
Learn about the administrative side of medical practice, such as referrals to hospital, repeat prescriptions and hospital correspondence for example.
Attend clinical meetings where we discuss complex patients, as well as those on our palliative care and safeguarding registers.
Learn and work with the wider members of the practice team, for example practice nurses, phlebotomists, health care assistants and reception staff.
Learn about and observe vaccination programmes in the UK
Opportunity to see patients at home, including nursing homes
Learn about and experience first-hand the caring as well as the scientific side of medicine
We host medical students
Learn from students from local medical schools (subject to semester times).

As we are Blue Peanut, talk to your supervisor about applying to medical schools in the UK
We will go through how you can use your work experience in your UCAS application and your medical school interview
You may have the opportunity to meet local medical students and trainee doctors
We will provide you with a certificate of completion of your work experience. Some medical schools request this on application.

What we do not include: -
Flights, Travel and Medical Insurance or Visa
Accommodation and travel to the practice – however we can point you towards local hotels and arrange for pick up and drop off each day. East Lancashire is generally a more affordable part of the country.
Food – there are several local shops near the practice
Social activities and leisure excursions outside clinical time. We are near the beautiful Ribble Valley and Lake district and can point you towards tourism agencies who can arrange itinerates for you.
What you will need:-
To complete our application form - this includes a health questionnaire and vaccination history. You will also need to sign our patient confidentiality agreement.

What is the price of the placement?
The price for a one week placement (Monday to Friday) is £1400. For a two week placement, this is discounted to £2400. If you wish a longer placement, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
How to book:-
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the dates you wish to undertake your work experience. Once we have confirmed the placement, we will send you application forms and you will be asked to make a non-refundable deposit of £250. The full and final amount is due 8 weeks before the start of the placement.
